Obama won the president election not because of skin color. He won because at a very dangerous moment in the life of a still young country, more people than have ever spoken before came together to try to save it. And that was a victory all its own.He won because he reacted to the crisis in a measured, mature way. Instead of comforting people about their current situation and reassuring them it will get better, he told America that the situations was likely to get worse and inspired them that only their efforts can determine how soon it will getting better. Actually both candidates, MaCain and Obama, are good men. But good isn't enough, this time we need greatness. Greatness is a compliment generally conferred in retrospect. America was luck enough to select unexpected greatness when it was needed: a country lawyer from Illinois, Lincoln; a polio survivor in a wheelchair, F.D.R.
After eight-year misgovernment, America may no longer be as dominant, economically or diplomatically, as it once was. But Americans corrected their mistakes by themselves. Now it is younger, more optimistic, less cynical, less arrogant. The new America will usher the world into a new direction. Time will tell us everything.
